Republic of Turkey Centennial

The republic had been proclaimed by the law adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on 29 October 1923, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had been elected the first president. On the occasion of the centenary, various events were held throughout the year. This milestone was regarded as an occasion to commemorate the century-long history and founding principles of the modern Turkish state.
