China’s First Crewed Spaceflight

2003 CE · Çin · science

In 2003, the People's Republic of China carried out its first crewed space flight with the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft.

With the mission carrying the astronaut Yang Liwei, China joined the ranks of countries that have sent a human into space and brought them back safely using their own means. This achievement represented a capability previously attained only by the Soviet Union/Russia and the United States. China's crewed space program was continued in subsequent years, expanding into fields such as a space station and lunar exploration.
