The Battle of San Jacinto was fought in 1836 during the Texas War of Independence.

This brief engagement between the Texan forces led by Sam Houston and the Mexican army ended in a decisive Texan victory. During the battle, the Mexican commander Santa Anna was taken prisoner. This victory effectively secured the process by which Texas separated from Mexico and declared its independence.
