Battle of Marj Dabiq

The Battle of Marj Dabiq took place in 1516 near Aleppo between the army commanded by the Ottoman sultan Selim I and the Mamluk State.

The Ottoman forces routed the Mamluk army with their superiority in firearms, and the Mamluk sultan lost his life in this battle. The victory brought Syria under Ottoman rule and opened the way for the Egyptian campaign.
