The naval Battle of Lepanto (İnebahtı) was fought in 1571 off the coast of Greece between the Ottoman navy and the navy of the Holy League formed by Spain, Venice, and the Papacy.

The League's navy gained the upper hand in this engagement, and the greater part of the Ottoman navy was damaged. Nevertheless, the Ottoman navy was rebuilt in a short time and continued its presence in the Mediterranean.
