Winter War

1939 CE · Finlandiya · war

In 1939-1940, the Winter War began with the Soviet Union's attack on Finland.

Against the Soviet army, which was far larger in numbers and equipment, the Finnish forces, benefiting from the harsh winter conditions and defensive tactics, put up a much stronger resistance than expected. At the end of the war, Finland lost territory but preserved its independence. The conflict also exposed the weaknesses of the Soviet army during this period.
