The reserve was based on the discoveries made in 2020 at the Sakarya Gas Field with the Fatih drilling ship. The first flow of gas, transported through the onshore facilities at Filyos and the offshore production infrastructure, occurred in a period coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The project was considered within the scope of Turkey's goal of reducing external dependence in energy, and a gradual increase in production capacity was envisaged.
