Treaty of Kadesh

The treaty signed between Egypt and the Hittites around 1259 BCE, following the Battle of Kadesh, is the oldest known written peace and alliance treaty whose text has survived to the present.

It included non-aggression, recognition of borders, and mutual assistance; a copy is displayed at the UN building. It is an early example of two superpowers ending a conflict through diplomacy between equals.
