End of the Iran-Iraq War

The war, which began in 1980 and lasted about eight years, caused great human losses and severe economic devastation for both countries. The ceasefire reached through the mediation efforts of the United Nations brought no significant change to the borders. The war went down in history as one of the longest-lasting and most destructive regional conflicts of the twentieth century.
