Siege of Vienna (1529)

1529 CE · military

The First Siege of Vienna took place in 1529 when the Ottoman army under the command of Suleiman the Magnificent besieged Habsburg-controlled Vienna.

Owing to late-season conditions, logistical difficulties, and the city's resistance, the siege did not succeed and the Ottoman army withdrew. This event represented one of the farthest points reached by the Ottoman westward advance in Central Europe.
