Battle of the Trench (Ahzab) (627)

627 CE · Medine · war

This is the event known as the Battle of the Trench, so called because the Muslims defended themselves by digging a trench around the city against the allied forces (al-Ahzab) led by Mecca that came to besiege Medina in 627.

The prolonged siege ended with the attackers withdrawing without being able to take the city. This defensive success is regarded as an important turning point that consolidated the position of the Muslim community in Medina in early Islamic history.
