Battle of Guadalete (711)

This was a battle generally held to have taken place in 711 on the Iberian Peninsula, near the Guadalete River.

In this engagement between the Muslim forces led by Tariq ibn Ziyad and the army of the Visigothic king Roderic, the Muslim victory accelerated the collapse of the Visigothic Kingdom. The event is considered the beginning of the Muslims' rapid conquest of most of the Iberian Peninsula.
