China Joins the WTO

This membership was an important stage in China's integration into the world trade system and brought with it commitments requiring the country to open its market further to international trade. China's accession to the WTO was assessed as one of the factors that contributed in the following years to the rapid increase of the country's weight in the global economy and to the transformation of world trade balances.
