The Balfour Declaration is the official statement issued in 1917 by the British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour announcing that the government viewed favorably the establishment of a 'national home' for the Jewish people in Palestine.

The text also stated that the civil and religious rights of the non-Jewish communities in the region should not be harmed. Made during the First World War, the declaration gave rise to controversy and became one of the documents that deeply influenced developments in Palestine in the following decades.
