The Babylonian Exile refers to the deportation of a significant portion of the Jews to Babylon after the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II conquered the Kingdom of Judah and destroyed Jerusalem, including the Temple.

This exile, which lasted for decades, left deep marks on Jewish history and religious tradition. The exile ended after the Persian king Cyrus the Great conquered Babylon and permitted the people to return.
