Peak of Atlantic Slave Trade

1750 CE · cultural

The mid-18th century was one of the most intense periods of the Atlantic slave trade.

European merchants forcibly transported millions of Africans brought from West Africa to plantations on the American continent. In this system, known as the triangular trade, European goods were sent to Africa, slaves to America, and products such as sugar and tobacco to Europe. This trade, one of the largest forced migrations in human history, formed the foundation of colonial economies.
