Battle of Ankara (Timur vs. Ottomans)

The great battle fought in 1402 near Ankara between the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I and the Central Asian ruler Timur.

It ended in the victory of Timur's army, and Sultan Bayezid was taken captive. The defeat led to the beginning of the Interregnum (Fetret Devri), a period in which central authority in the Ottoman state collapsed and struggles for the throne took place among the princes.
