Fought on the Balkan and Caucasus fronts, the war ended in the defeat of the Ottoman Empire and led to the preliminary Treaty of San Stefano (Ayastefanos / Yeşilköy). The war produced major humanitarian consequences; intense waves of migration occurred in particular from the Balkans and the Caucasus. The outcomes of the process were later reconsidered at the Congress of Berlin.
